<strong>1,585,873<\/strong> (2010 Census), it is the most densely populated county in the US.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Brooklyn<\/strong>, situated on the southwest tip of <strong>Long Island<\/strong>, is today the most populous (<strong>2,504,700<\/strong>: 2010 Census) of the five boroughs.&nbsp; <strong>Queens<\/strong>, to the Northeast of Brooklyn, is the largest and fastest growing (population <strong>2,230,722<\/strong>: 2010 Census)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NYC total population: <strong>8,175,133<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The total area of the five boroughs that make up New York City is about <strong>320 sq miles<\/strong>; the longest distance between its boundaries, from the northeast to the southwest, is about <strong>35 miles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">New York Harbor has access to the Atlantic Ocean through the Narrows, a passage between Staten Island and Long Island.&nbsp; The city is rimmed by more than <strong>578 miles of coastline<\/strong>, which includes some <strong>14 miles of beaches.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The city gave its name to the state (the 11<sup>th<\/sup> of the original 13 states of the union), which, by virtue of its economic expansion and political influence became know as the \u201c<strong>Empire State<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_2749\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2749\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a
