And that is exactly what you will find at Osteria La Piola. Small wooden tables with classic red checkerboard table clothes create a cozy atmosphere. The menu is nothing but the Milanese classics, no frills, just genuine great home-style Milanese cuisine.

You’ll find the Osteria just down the road from the Lima metro stop. It’s conveniently located next to Bar Basso, meaning you can grab a traditional Negroni Sbagliato for aperitivo before your meal.

Milanese chefs are experts at making one of the region’s most beloved dishes: Osso bucco. High-end restaurants and modern reinterpretations can run €35 and up, while simple osterie or lunch menus may offer great local dishes for under €15. Restaurants typically open for lunch from around 12:30–14:30 and then close until dinner service, usually starting around 19:30. If you’re hungry in between, look for bakeries, cafés, or casual wine bars, which often serve light snacks throughout the afternoon. Booking dinner in advance is recommended, especially on weekends.

What’s the best season to enjoy authentic Milanese food?

Milanese food is hearty and comforting, so autumn and winter are ideal seasons — perfect for warming up with polenta, ossobuco, büseca, and rich risotto.
