John F Kennedy International Airport<\/strong> is one of the busiest travel hubs in the world. \u00a0Two important things to know about the airport\u2013 it can be very crowded at peak hours (causing frustration and delays), and it\u2019s located 15 miles from Manhattan<\/strong>, which is a whole lot of NYC to traverse\u2026frequently through a lot of traffic.\u00a0 Here are the primary sources of transportation –<\/p>\n

\"NYC<\/a>AirTrain<\/strong> – a monorail type train that connects JFK\u2019s terminals with the subway (A, E, J<\/a> to Manhattan) and Long Island Rail Road<\/a>.\u00a0 Trains run approximately every 10 minutes<\/strong>.\u00a0 The total journey to\/from Manhattan usually takes about an hour<\/strong> (reduced subway service at off-peak hours, weekends and holidays will increase travel time).\u00a0 This is probably\u00a0the best alternative for times when traffic is a factor.<\/p>\n

NYC Airporter<\/strong> – express bus service<\/strong> to\/from Grand Central Terminal<\/strong> and Port Authority Bus Terminal<\/strong>.\u00a0 Buses leave 5am – 11:30pm<\/strong>, every 15 minutes 11am – 8pm, <\/strong>and every 30 minutes other times<\/strong>. Cost $15<\/strong> ($28 roundtrip) and tickets can be purchased online or when boarding.\u00a0 Curbside agents (wearing the Airporter logo) can be found outside the baggage area at each terminal.\u00a0 See their website<\/a> for information.<\/p>\n

Supershuttle<\/strong><\/a> – a good option for those with a lot of luggage, as they will pick you up at your hotel\/destination.\u00a0 Shared van<\/strong> service costs $19<\/strong> and must be reserved in advance. \u00a0Caveat: because it is a shared service, your pick may be earlier than desired and other passenger pickups may increase travel time.<\/p>\n

Taxi<\/strong> – there is a Flat Fare <\/strong>of $45.00<\/strong> for trips to\/from Manhattan (excluding bridge or tunnel tolls and tip). This is the entire fare (not per person) and taxis can seat up to four passengers. \u00a0Taxis now accept credit cards. \u00a0Join an official taxi line outside the baggage area (rogue taxis\/drivers are a riskier option). Get a receipt when you arrive at your destination (you\u2019ll need the medallion number if you\u2019ve left something in the cab).<\/p>\n

Private Car Service<\/strong> – cost begins at $40. (excluding tolls and tip) for a basic Sedan.\u00a0 Minivans and Limousines are available at higher costs.\u00a0 Note: \u201cWait times\u201d can really add to the cost of your trip. \u00a0Recommended companies are Carmel <\/a>(866) 666-6666 and Dial 7<\/a> (212) 777-8888.\u00a0 Like taxis, this can be an economical option for two or more travelers.<\/p>\n

Newark Liberty International Airport<\/a> (EWR)<\/strong> is located across the Hudson River in Newark, NJ<\/strong> and just 14 miles from Manhattan<\/strong>.\u00a0 Traffic between NYC and NJ travels through two tunnels<\/strong> (particularly the Lincoln Tunnel<\/strong>) which can become backed up at rush hours.\u00a0 Transportation options include –<\/p>\n

AirTrain Newark<\/strong> – another monorail train that connects with NJ Transit trains to Manhattan\u2019s Penn Station<\/strong> (as well as PATH trains<\/strong> for NJ and Amtrak<\/strong>). \u00a0AirTrain runs every 3 minutes 5am -12am<\/strong>, and every 15 minutes other hours.\u00a0 NJ Transit trains leave consistently (except 2am – 5am when there is no service) and the journey to Manhattan is 30 minutes<\/strong>. Tickets are $12.50<\/strong>.\u00a0 See their website<\/a> for exact schedules and information.<\/p>\n

Newark Airport Express<\/strong> – express buses<\/strong> between EWR and Manhattan (Port Authority, 5th Ave. & 42nd St., and Grand Central Terminal<\/strong>) 4am – 1am. (4:45am – 1:45am to EWR). Buses depart every 15 minutes 6:45am – 11:15pm<\/strong> (30 mins other hours) and tickets are $15<\/strong> ($27 roundtrip). See their website<\/a> for information or to buy tickets online.<\/p>\n

Taxi<\/strong> – taxi fares to\/from Manhattan are metered and range $50-$70<\/strong>, not including tolls and tip.\u00a0 There is an additional $5 surcharge<\/strong> weekday mornings (6-9am), afternoons (4-7pm) and weekends (12-8pm).\u00a0 Again, join an official taxi line outside the baggage area, and get a receipt when you pay.<\/p>\n

Private Car Service<\/strong> – cost begins at $43. (excluding tolls and tip)<\/strong> for basic Sedan. Minivans and Limousines are also available at higher costs. LaGuardia Airport (LGA)<\/strong> – just 4 miles from Manhattan<\/strong>, LGA is the smallest and most convient of NYC\u2019s airports. Transportation options include –<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

M60 Bus<\/strong><\/a> – This NYC bus runs from Broadway & 106th St directly to LGA<\/strong>, connecting with subway lines 1,2,3, 4,5,6, A, B, C, D<\/a><\/strong> for the cost of a standard ride: $2.25<\/strong>. Buses run every few minutes (less nights and weekends) and the trip takes approx. 30 minutes<\/strong> from beginning to end.\u00a0 The bus can become very crowded with New Yorkers and luggage-toting travelers squeezing in together.\u00a0 Still, it\u2019s an incredible deal.<\/p>\n

NYC Airporter<\/strong> – express bus service to\/from Grand Central Terminal, Port Authority Bus Terminal, and Penn Station<\/strong>. \u00a0Buses leave 5am – 11:30pm<\/strong>, departing every 30 minutes<\/strong>. \u00a0Cost $12<\/strong> ($22 roundtrip) purchased online or when boarding.\u00a0 Curbside agents (wearing the Airporter logo) can be found outside the baggage area at each terminal.
