For detailed walking directions, see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynbridgepark.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">park\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ferries: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eastriverferry.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>NY Waterways East River Ferry<\/strong><\/a> offers regular service from Wall Street, continuing up the Brooklyn and Queens waterfronts to Midtown Manhattan (and vice versa). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nywatertaxi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>New York Water Taxi<\/strong><\/a> connects South Street Seaport (Pier 16) in Lower Manhattan with the park. \u00a0There are also summertime ferries to Governor\u2019s Island that depart from Pier 6.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.takewalks.com\/blog\/citi-bike-nyc\/\"><strong>CitiBike<\/strong><\/a> (NYC\u2019s bike sharing program) has docking stations throughout Lower Manhattan and several in or near the park. Check <a href=\"https:\/\/citibikenyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">their website<\/a> for all information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For those with their own bikes, bike racks are located at Piers 1, 2, 5 and 6.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Brooklyn Bridge Park is fully accessible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Free Wi-Fi<\/strong> is available at Pier 1, Pier 6, Empire Fulton Ferry, and the Main Street sections.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7289\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7289\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7289 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.takewalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Squibb-600x399.jpg\" alt=\"Squibb Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge Park\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7289\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Spectacular scene from Squibb Bridge Photo: Jeff Dobbins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Park_Highlights\"><\/span><b>Park Highlights <\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fulton Ferry Landing<\/b> \u2013 You\u2019ll find stunning bridge, skyline, and harbor views, Ferry\/Water Taxi service, bike rentals, acclaimed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bargemusic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bargemusic<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rivercafe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">River Caf\u00e9<\/a> restaurant, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynicecreamfactory.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory<\/a> (housed in a historic firehouse).\u00a0 Look for the bronze reliefs in the pier, depicting scenes from the locale\u2019s history, and an excerpt from Walt Whitman\u2019s &#8220;Crossing Brooklyn Ferry&#8221; in the pier railings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Pier 1<\/b> \u2013 this green space includes two ample lawns, a waterfront promenade, the &#8220;Granite Prospect&#8221; (a set of steps with incredible skyline and harbor views), a playground, and a wetland salt marsh. \u00a0The pier also offers the Brooklyn Bridge Garden Bar (seasonal) and public restrooms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Squibb Bridge<\/b> \u2013 the new trail bridge connecting Brooklyn Heights to the park\/waterfront with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pier 2 &#8211;<\/strong> this recreational space offers courts for basketball, handball, bocce and shuffleboard, an area of play turf, fitness equipment and swing sets.\u00a0 It also includes restrooms, lockers, water fountains\/bottle refilling stations, picnic tables and bike racks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Pop-up Pool at Pier 2<\/b> &#8211; a 3.5 ft. deep swimming pool open in summer. The pool area includes a small sandy beach, picnic tables, and food concessions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7290\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7290\" style=\"width: 381px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7290 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.takewalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Water-feature-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Water feature, Brooklyn Bridge Park\" width=\"391\" height=\"260\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7290\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hard to resist leaping into the Water Lab at Pier 6 Photo: Jeff Dobbins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Pier 5<\/b> \u2013 a former shipping pier now covered in \u201cgrassy\u201d playing fields for soccer, rugby, flag football, and Frisbee.\u00a0 Fishing facilities are found at the pier\u2019s western end. North of the pier is the <b>Picnic Peninsula<\/b> with tables and barbeque grills. Concessions are also available.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Pier 6<\/b> \u2013 (only half completed) features <b>sand Volleyball courts<\/b>, lawns, a dog run, concession stand, public restrooms, and several children\u2019s play eras, including an elaborate <b>\u201cWater Lab\u201d<\/b> and dense <b>Marsh Garden<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">North of the Brooklyn Bridge (in DUMBO and under the Manhattan Bridge) you\u2019ll find\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Empire Fulton Ferry<\/b> \u2013 the area includes lawns, a small rocky beach, a picnic grove, remains of Civil-war era warehouses (currently being renovated), and the lovely vintage <a href=\"http:\/\/janescarousel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Jane\u2019s Carousel<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7293\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7293\" style=\"width: 380px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7293\" src=\"https:\/\/www.takewalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Skylines-view-600x347.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Skyline from Brooklyn Bridge Park\" width=\"390\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7293\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stunning waterside view from park path Photo: Jeff Dobbins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Brooklyn Bridge Park is still in development<\/strong>, with segments that are active construction zones (notably, the area between Piers 2 &amp; 5 and the Main Street section near the Manhattan Bridge).\u00a0 Pier 3, which will include lawns, an esplanade, and more fishing and boating facilities, is scheduled to open soon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The park offers a host of <strong>recreational and fitness programs<\/strong>, including biking, volleyball, strength training, running, Pilates, Yoga, Zumba, Aerobics (even Belly Dance and Hip Hop varieties), kayaking, tours, and gardening workshops<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is also <strong>a full roster of cultural activities presented at the park<\/strong>, which have included art exhibits, Dance Parties, outdoor movie screenings, free concerts by BargeMusic, Jazz Mobile, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Metropolitan Opera, and performances of Shakespeare. The park hosts several festivals including the World Science Festival, City of Water Day, and the DUMBO Arts Fest.
