Continuing along the bustling Via dei Calzaiuoli, you’ll come to the awe-inspiring Piazza della Signoria - the beating heart of Florence. No doubt you’ll recognize multiple monuments here, including a copy of Michelangelo’s David. This square’s 800 year history centers around the Palazzo della Signoria - also known as Palazzo Vecchio - the political seat of the Medici Family during the Renaissance. Stopping by the 14th-century Loggia dei Lanzi, you’ll learn about its incredible statue collection, including multiple statues by celebrated sculptor Giambologna.
The architectural marvels continue as you walk along the arched corridors and squares of Galleria degli Uffizi, where you’ll hear about some of the treasure kept inside. Finally, you’ll reach the bank of the Arno River with its picture-perfect Ponte Vecchio. This historic and colorful bridge makes a stunning backdrop for photos, which you’re free to take as your guide unfolds its 700 year history, famed for its gold and jewelry shops. Our tour ends with a short introduction to the Oltrarno (the district ‘beyond the Arno’ or ‘the other side of the Arno’), after which your guide will happily offer you some recommendations for things to see and places to eat as you continue your visit to Florence.
