No visit to Milan is complete without a trip to its latest cultural centerpiece. The modern district of Porta Nuova is where the current trends of fashion, design and architecture converge. Architectural gems and art installations galore, prepare to be amazed!

You’ll begin in the Piazza XXV Aprile, overlooking the grand city gate of Porta Garibaldi. From here, walk along Corso Como, the cultural hub of design, art, culture and nightlife. Prepare to be wowed when you step into the award-winning Piazza Gae Aulenti, designed by the late Italian architect also known for the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Here you’ll find gorgeous skyscrapers and a ‘Solar Tree’ structure that uses solar energy to light the square (after your tour feel free to climb the Unicredit tower for the best panoramic view of Milan - it’s well worth it!)

Next, you’ll traverse the new park known as ‘Biblioteca degli Alberi’, or Library of Trees, a master work of modern design. You’ll then come to ‘Casa della Memoria’, or House of Memory, an archive of democracy in Italy designed by baukuh. Nearby is the Fondazione Riccardo Catella, housed in a small art nouveau palazzo, and is the organizer of cultural activity and sponsor of the area’s design renaissance. Finally, you’ll enter the offbeat, hipster-esque neighborhood known as Isola. This area plays a major part in Milan Design Week, and you’ll find underground tunnels decorated by local graffiti artists, public art installations, art galleries and even a ‘hidden’ art gallery on via Cola Montano. And of course, the pièce de résistance, the two residential towers ‘Bosco Verticale’ - the Vertical Forest - whose 900 trees are instantly recognizable growing from the towers’ terraces from top to bottom.
