I'm a curious person with many interests. I've been traveling all around the world since when I was a teenager. In the end I realized that my country, Italy, was so rich in history and art and I love sharing this with my guests!
Q. What inspired you to become a guide?
Art and history have always been my passion since high school. But most of my life I worked in a different field, so in my free time I enjoyed visiting European and Italian cities, visiting art exhibitions and museums. One day a friend said to me, "Why don't you share your knowledge and passion becoming a tour guide?" Good idea! I earned my tour guide license in 2011, and since I live in Lombardy, I mainly lead tours in Milan.
Q. What do you love most about Milan?
What I love most in Milano are: Brera district, with the Brera Picture Gallery and the local shops and restaurants; Magenta district, the real ancient city center not touristic at all; and the Sforza Castle, the biggest in Italy.
Tourists often stop me to ask for information even if I'm not leading a tour or showing the guide license, I probably have a tour guide face!
I like to sneak into the private ancient mansions to discover their secret courtyards and gardens.
My favorite way to end a day of work is a Milanese Happy Hour sitting at a bar on the Navigli water canals at sunset.
Q: What do you tell your visiting friends to see in Milan?
Besides the most famous monuments (Duomo, Last Supper by DaVinci, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele), you can't miss the Brera district, the Navigli water canals, the Scala Opera house museum.
Q. What are your favorite off-the-beaten-path spots in Milan?
There are some small and not famous museums in ex-mansions, such as Poldi Pezzoli and Bagatti Valsecchi, in the Fashion district, where you can see the original furniture and the art collection of their ex-owners. Pinacoteca Ambrosiana is a special museum with interesting and curious art works.
Q: What are some unmissable foods and drinks?
Risotto alla milanese con ossobuco is a typical regional dish with saffron and tender veal. You must try it! You won't find anything like it anywhere else. It pairs perfectly with a good red wine.
