If you love art and sculpture sign up fast to this fabulous tour. But.. Be sure you get a tour from Walks. I was beyond blessed to have Michael as my tour guide.
Words can not describe how truly wonderful he is. He is intelligent, creative, welcoming, kind, helpful, engaging, friendly, funny, brilliant, smart, compassionate and highly educated. His knowledge and ability to teach is what made this tour so spectacular. I learned more than I ever imagined but was allowed to take in the delights. He told us he was going to pick and narrow down the best pieces but in fairness all is the best. But to go through the entire space we would have to be there a month and we had a schedule to keep. The works he chose were the highlight and I am thankful he has a critical eye and a wealth of knowledge. I was so nervous to be touring alone and arrived early. He said please sit in the shade i will not forget you. You are early but this is good I like it when my guests are early.
The art is mind blowing. I had not idea I would be so close to these works. And the history surrounding them.
If you have trouble walking 3 stories... Get in shape. There are three which felt more like 5 flights of stairs that you need to get up. He reminded us all to take a deep breath and follow. He does not talk while we are hiking these steps because this is a challenge for all. No elevator or ability for those in wheelchairs to navigate. But the reason he does this, He goes from the least busy part of the museum slowly making his way back down to the busier parts of the tour at the end. Very smart of him as we were able to get photos without the barriers of other tourists.
He welcomed all questions and was generous with information about the pieces. Every question was responded with kindness and even a bit of humor. At one point he wanted us to navigate through a section but wanted us to be surprised so told us to follow NO PEEKING and once we got to the desired spot he wanted to see the wonder on our faces and teach us the joy of all the art. This tour should be a requirement for every graduate of Art History and by Michael of Walks. He was like a college professor but more fun.
Thank you Walks. Because of this tour I signed up for another walks of Italy Tour. And walks is my favorite tour company.
I could upload a 100 photos but chose just a few treasures that spoke to me.
