Why take this tour?

Explore the history of Renaissance paintings with this guided walk through Italy's great picture gallery: The Uffizi. You'll hear stories behind the most famous masterpieces and, with its chronological layout, see how art developed over time. You'll also make a less common visit to Palazzo Vecchio, learning about the infamous Medici family and seeing the frescoed room that thwarted Michelangelo.

Take a walk through the history of Italian art.

(Nota bene: From November 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017, we are running a special edition of this tour that begins in the Palazzo Vecchio and uses a special, VIP corridor which is usually off-limits to visitors to enter into the Uffizi Gallery. Aside from this small change, the tour remains the same.)

The Uffizi gallery houses the world's greatest collection of Renaissance paintings. Michelangelo, Leonardo, Cimabue, Botticelli, you name it; all the greats are there, in a lovely palace built by the Medici family to show off what started as their private collection.

The Uffizi gallery houses the world's greatest collection of Renaissance paintings. Michelangelo, Leonardo, Cimabue, Botticelli, you name it; all the greats are there, in a lovely palace built by the Medici family to show off what started as their private collection.

Now that it's open to the public, crowds line up in front to buy tickets and the galleries are packed with bemused onlookers trying to figure out what to see and where to go. But when you go with Walks your experience will be very different.

With Skip the Line tickets, you, your art historian guide and a small group of maximum 14 other people, will get past the crowds and right to the art. Once inside, your Uffizi Tour begins. Because the galleries are arranged chronologically, you'll literally walk through the history of European art. You'll start in the Middle Ages and experience the way it evolves and blossoms throughout the Renaissance.

As you see works like Michelangelo's Tondo Doni and Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Primavera, you'll learn about the tumultous times that created these great painters and how their art reflected their lives and the societies they came from. You'll also get to journey past the Renaissance to see world-famous works by Titian, Caravaggio, and others.

After all those paintings, you'll hop over to the Piazza della Signoria to see the open-air statue gallery of the Loggia dei Lanzi, before heading into the enormous Palazzo Vecchio. This palatial fortress was the home to the great Medici family, the bankers who acted as the patrons to all those famous artists in the Uffizi. You'll see their famous council room, the Salone dei Cinquecento (Room of 500), and learn its troubled history as well as some of the mysteries that still surround it.

At just 2 hours and 45 minutes, this is a great way to experience two of Florence's most famous attractions: A must-see for art lovers and anyone interested in the history of the Renaissance.

Great tour! We were with our two teens and they enjoyed it too. Over a week in Italy, we took 5 Walks tours and loved them all.

Guilia was delightful! Knowledgeable, patient, fun. We loved our time with her.
