The Best of Madrid tour was wonderful! I highly recommend it!
Our day visiting the Royal Palace with Carmen was so much fun! Carmen provided the perfect amount of explanation for all of the things we saw that day and also kept things fun! We navigated around crowds at the Palace and were able to see all of the high points. She was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Our group quickly became friends and enjoyed ending our day with a tapas snack and a walk through Madrid's old town.
We took a walking tour of Madrid, visiting the Palace and Cathedral, market and more. It’s a beautiful city and Ernesto was an excellent guide, passionate and knowledgeable. It is a lot of walking, so be prepared for that!
Frankly it took too much out of our day. I loved our tour guide, but the tour was much too long and too focused on specifics without any focus on a "Welcome to Madrid". These were our first few hours in Madrid. After 4 hours we left the tour before they even reached the market and the market was finished by that time anyway. I didn't appreciate that a table on the terrace wasn't reserved for us and instead we had to sit isolated in the back room. And we were not particularly thrilled to get ham and cheese. We had been in Spain for two weeks and enjoyed much more memorable tapas. We met a tuk tuk guy along the way and hired him later. His tour was about an hour and a half, cost 150€ and we learned so much of the same fascinating history, but also learned about flamenco, saw the oldest tapas bars in Madrid, saw parks, etc. We went through so many great plazas, windy alleys, etc. Granted we weren't on foot, but it was a much better orientation. I wished we had done that instead. It would have made much better use of our time and then we would've known where to get great tapas, had time for the Prado, etc.
David was amazing. Very knowledgeable and the pace of the tour was perfect. We highly recommend David for the tour of the royal palace and the Prado.
