This tour, at least with our guide, should have been advertised as in extremely academic, in-depth discussion of 8-10 of the most famous pieces at The MET. We spent 10-15 minutes standing in front of each piece listening to a comprehensive, detailed analysis by a very knowledgable and kind guide. She was truly an expert. While some of the discussion was interesting, for our family it was way too much detail and very boring. The Walks tour description reads, "enjoy a carefully curated route through NYC's incomparable Metropolitan Museum of Art that will ensure you don't miss any of the highlights." We had limited time and had hoped this tour would provide an efficient way to see many of the highlights of the MET, but instead we just learned about a few pieces in excruciating detail. We stood in a room full of paintings by Monet, but just talked about 2 of them for 10 minutes, with no time to even glance at the others. We then spent 10-15 minutes standing in front of one Indian sculpture (Nataraja Murtis) and discussing the history of India, Sanskrit, and the Hindu religion. Of the 9 highlights listed in the description, after one hour we still had not seen Ancient Egyptian Galleries, Temple of Dendur, Tomb of Perneb, van Gogh (Paintings), Picasso and Degas (Paintings), or John Singer Sargent (Madame X). We left the tour before it ended and were able to find all the highlights we wanted to see easily on our own just using them map.
