New cities can be mysterious and intimidating when you first arrive. That's why we've designed this relaxed Florence walking tour; to introduce you to one of Italy's authentic gems and give you the tips and context you need to enjoy your stay.

You'll meet your passionate local guide and small group of 14 other people or fewer in the Piazza del Duomo, under the enormous dome that has defined this city for half a millennium. From this tourist hot spot you'll slip into the more local neighborhood of Santa Croce; the old stomping grounds of great Florentines like Michelangelo and Dante. As you explore these quieter streets, your guide will regale you with historical anecdotes and local lore.

Making your way to the Piazza della Signoria (Florence's jaw-dropping outdoor sculpture gallery), your guide will point out Sant’Ambrogio Market. We recommend returning later for some of Florence's most authentic and best-priced food. From the Piazza della Signoria you'll stroll over the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge into the quiet neighborhood of the Oltrarno, filled with small artisan shops and local restaurants. After getting recommendations for places to eat and shop, you'll pass the imposing Pitti Palace (which you should definitely try to visit) and end up in the Piazza Santo Spirito. This beautiful square should be buzzing with restaurants and pizzerias at this hour: just in time for dinner.

During your Florence Walking Tour you'll also stop at one of the city's best gelaterias for a cone - remember, gelato was invented in Florence so the best gelato in Florence is arguably the best gelato in Italy. Your guide will also tell you how to tell the difference between good and bad gelato so you can make sure you're only eating the best throughout the rest of your stay.
