Culinary Deep Dive! This tour was a great deep dive into the culinary culture of the city. You'll get to explore the neighborhood of La Latina, a favorite of locals, with the expertise of a local guide. This tour took us to four different places and introduced a different drink and food pairing at each location. I loved Devour's commitment to local, family-run small businesses. Of the four places we went to, two were new to me and two were places I had on my list to try but had never been. Many of these places would be very difficult to get a reservation or spot at, especially if you don't speak Spanish, so going with Devour is a great option for tourists and expats in Madrid alike! Our tour guide, Lilliana curated a beautiful evening for our tour group of 12. We tried local beer, sidra, wine, and dessert wine. For food, we were treated to gildas and tapas, cabrales cheese and chorizo, different traditional Spanish stews including cocido, and a torrija for dessert. If you're new to Spanish cuisine, this is an excellent breadth of food and steers you towards the local, classic flavors that are specific to Madrid, as opposed to menu items that are not truly the specialties of this city (like paella or sangria). As is always the case, around good food, conversation blossomed. One of my favorite aspects of this tour was the opportunity to connect with the other attendees. There was a wide range of ages and nationalities represented. We had a local Madrileño on the tour, expats who had been in Madrid for some time, and tourists who were experiencing Madrid for the first time. By the end of the tour, we were exchanging contact information and walking away as friends. If you're on the fence about this tour, go for it! You'll enjoy your time and leave with expanded culinary perspectives and a deeper knowledge of Madrid.
