In this spotlight series our expert guide will take you on a journey through time weaving stories of the people, the past, the wonderment, and the canyon today. The colossal power and audacious towering red cliffs have filled people with curiosity, inspiration and fear for centuries but who were they? How did they get there? What did they believe? How was it formed? How old is it anyway?

Learn the story of the grizzled Civil War Veteran John Wesley Powell, whose determination, grit and sense of wonder would compel him to conquer the Grand Canyon. As a professor of geology he was mesmerized. Millions of years of rock layers, sediment and history carved, exposed and waiting. The one armed veteran was determined to see it all - to be the first to traverse the deadly, raging waters straight through the heart of it. A team of nine would go in but only six would come out. Would he be the first to make it through?

Our wonderful guide will regale you with the legends of the Navajo, her personal experiences and the colorful characters that have influenced and shaped the region as we know it today. We visited the Grand Canyon sseveral years ago, and although we had a guide hiking down in the Canyon, he didn’t provide nearly as much background and information!

The tour was very informative and spanned diffrent topics to peak the entire families interests. The entire family enjoyed from 3 years to 75 years.
