Tastes & Traditions of Rome: Testaccio Food and Market Tour

Chiara was a great host! Very knowledgeable and supportive of the diverse group. Testaccio neighbourhood and market were super vibrant and interesting, was great to see and learn some history of the area. Would highly recommend!

Aurelio was amazing! We learnt so much about the local food and we were made to feel like a true local with the small numbers in the group. Aurelio spoke with passion about the source and process of how the food had come about. Do not have breakfast prior to the tour as you are very well fed! We got coffee and a pastry for breakfast, cheese and meats, bread, a sandwich, 3 types of pasta with wine and gelato to finish. I would highly recommend this tour!!

Had a great time with Silvia, she walked us all over and was very personable. We had multiple snacks and delicious snacks from around the neighborhood.

On our short stay in Rome this trip, the one thing that I wanted to do was take a food tour in Testaccio, and our experience with Annamaria exceeded expectations. We started the morning with maritozzi, and then continued to the Mercato Testaccio, where we sampled cheese, meat, and local produce, plus panini from Mordi e Vai. Then we visited Checchino dal 1887 for Rigatoni with oxtail ragu and local wine. After a visit to their wine cellar (built into Monte Testaccio), we finished with delicious gelato. We appreciated the small group size (there were 9 in our group), the chance to see a less tourist heavy part of the city, and the opportunity to taste some of the quinto quarto dishes that Testaccio is known for. Annamaria was friendly and knowledgeable and we would be happy to take another tour with her.

Great experience! Our tour guide was wonderful. If you want a unique experience away from the hustle and bustle around the typical tourist attractions this is for you…..come hungry

Giulia F was so much fun! She was definitely a very experienced tour guide of the Testaccio market and the surrounding local vendors. She knew all the stall holders and shop keepers that we visited as her friends, and it was wonderful having a local introduce you to them. We were made to feel like part of her family at each place. We really enjoyed the variety of places we visited and ALL the food and drink that we tasted. It was certainly plentiful. The Checchino restaurant cellar was a highlight for me, with so much history there. Amazing insight. Grazie Mille!

This was a great tour full of history and local food. What a great way to experience the city like a local. Mattia was super knowledgeable and friendly and took us to the best spots in the neighborhood! Highly recommend this tour!
